The Truchas Chapter of Trout Unlimited is looking for a few additional volunteers to help support the Village of Pecos Fishing Derby on Saturday, June 6, at Monastery Lake.
This popular, kid-focused event is sponsored by the Village of Pecos and draws strong community participation each year. The Village has made a significant investment in the event, including T-shirts, snacks, prizes, and other giveaways for participating kids.
Truchas Chapter will be there with a hands-on macroinvertebrate station similar to the setup we use during Trout in the Classroom fish releases. It is a great opportunity to help young anglers and families learn more about aquatic insects, stream health, trout habitat, and the living systems that support coldwater fisheries.
Event details:
Saturday, June 6
Monastery Lake
Village of Pecos Fishing Derby
Volunteer time: 6:00 a.m. to noon
Public event time: 7:00 a.m. to noon
We currently have several volunteers committed, but we need at least one more person to help staff the table. Additional volunteers are very welcome, especially because more help will allow for shorter rotations throughout the morning.
Volunteers may help with setup, talking with kids and families, assisting at the macroinvertebrate station, and representing Truchas Chapter at this community event. No special expertise is required—just a willingness to help, engage with families, and support a fun morning of conservation education.
To volunteer, please contact Nick Tsapatsaris, Truchas Chapter Conservation Chair, by email at [email protected]or by text at 339-223-1266.
Thank you for helping Truchas Chapter support youth education, community outreach, and coldwater conservation in the Pecos watershed.
