Trout in the Classroom Egg Delivery

On Friday January 12, a dozen volunteers helped to distribute triploid rainbow trout eggs to 11 different Santa Fe schools participating in our Trout in the Classroom program co-sponsored with New Mexico Game and Fish (Lisboa Springs Hatchery). This year we added two new schools, and had the opportunity to speak with several of the classes about trout in New Mexico and conservation practices.

Thanks to the following members of Truchas – Trout Unlimited, we will connect with the community and teach the next generation about sustainable trout populations: Denise Stalzer, Patrick Delaney, Richard Jones, Rich Schrader, Victor Nelson, Jeffrey Jones, Aaron Dailey, Arnold Atkins, Dave Wheelock, David Howard, Kent Reid, Gary Moran, Bill Zenger and Sansom Williams.

The next phase will be raising the trout in the classrooms until May, when we help out with field trips to release the fish and study their habitats. If you would like to help out in May, please contact Mike Jozwiakowski, TIC Coordinator, Truchas at [email protected]
