Trout Unlimited New Mexico’s top priority for the 2025 legislative session, Senate Bill 5, is almost at the finish line, and we need your help to get it over the line. SB5 will modernize and fund the Department of Game and Fish as well as reform the dysfunctional Game Commission. You can read more about it here. This is one of the most significant pieces of legislation affecting the Department since its founding and passing it is extremely important to New Mexico’s anglers and the future or wildlife management.
We need your help to get this bill over the line! Please contact your State Representative today and urge them to vote YES on Senate Bill 5 when it comes to the House Floor.

Step 3: Compose an email to them using the simple talking points below.
- I am your constituent and I am asking you to vote yes on Senate Bill 5 (game & fish reform).
- Add personal touch on why wildlife / conservation is important to you.
- We need SB5 to fund the Department of Game & Fish and reform the Game Commission so it is fully functional.
- SB5 will protect our hunting and fishing traditions, support our outdoor recreation economy and ensure wildlife is healthy for future generations.
- As one of the most biodiverse states in the nation, New Mexico deserves a 21st century wildlife management system.
- After months of negotiations, SB5 went through four legislative committees and passed with a bipartisan vote in the Senate. I am asking you to vote YES on the bill when it comes to the House floor.
