A Message from the Truchas Chapter of Trout Unlimited
The Truchas Chapter depends on your generous support to ensure our native trout waters are protected for future generations. This year we have a goal to raise $18,000 to support our 2026 youth education, community outreach and conservation initiatives.
Imagine this vision: The sun glistens on crystal-clear mountain streams, home to native trout thriving in their pristine habitat. Our children and grandchildren are enjoying the sound of rushing water, the thrill of a perfect cast – these are the experiences we cherish at the Truchas Chapter and seek to preserve.
But these vital ecosystems are under constant threat. Pollution, habitat degradation, and climate change are all impacting the health of our beloved streams and rivers and the fish that depend on them.
The Truchas Chapter of Trout Unlimited is dedicated to its mission of preserving, protecting, and restoring coldwater fisheries in the Rio Grande, Pecos and Gila River drainages in New Mexico. We’re a passionate group of local anglers, conservationists, and community members working tirelessly to ensure these precious resources endure for generations to come.

Your Support Makes a Difference!
We rely on the generosity of individuals like you to fund our crucial initiatives to support our mission:

Inspiring the Next Generation of Stewards:
The future of our environment is in the hands of the next generation. That’s why our youth education programs are so important. Your support directly funds these critical initiatives, including:
- Our STEM college scholarship program
- Our highly successful Trout in the Classroom outreach program to twelve schools
- The Indigenous and Hispanic Youth Fly Fishing Camp
- Watershed conservation education in the classroom, field workshops and in-the field youth internships
By investing in these programs, you’re not just supporting conservation education – you’re cultivating a new generation of conservation leaders.
Community outreach:
Fly fishing, fly tying and fly-casting community instructional programs & advocacy for cold water conservation initiatives with the community and elected officials. Our Quarterly Ales and Tales gatherings offer our community a chance to meet with us in a relaxed and casual setting to learn about our programs.

Stream and watershed restoration:
In collaboration with Trout Unlimited, the U.S. Forest Service, National Park Service, New Mexico Department of Game and Fish, and other dedicated organizations, we are actively restoring damaged streambeds and watersheds. Our work focuses on healing these ecosystems by cleaning up, planting native vegetation and improving crucial trout habitat in the Rio Grande, Pecos River and Gila River watersheds.
