2025 Truchas Scholarship Awarded to Erin Lucio

The Truchas Chapter of Trout Unlimited, based in Santa Fe, has awarded its 2025 Truchas Scholarship to Erin Lucio of Capital High School. This scholarship was established in 2024 to assist future conservation leaders from public high schools in the Santa Fe area in their pursuit of a secondary STEM  education.  Erin was acknowledged at our “Casting for the Future” special event held recently at the La Fonda Hotel on April 10. Guest speakers included Peter Wirth, State Senate Majority Leader (a Truchas member), and Chris Wood, President and CEO of Trout Unlimited. Past President of the Truchas Chapter,  John Hanasack, presented the $2500 check to Erin and her parents, Jesus Lucio and Vanessa Navarez.

Erin plans to study Nursing at the University of New Mexico starting in the fall of 2025. She has spent many hours exploring the New Mexico outdoors and plans to incorporate lessons on the importance of the outdoors to mental well-being in addition to her physical care of future patients in her career. Truchas Chapter wishes to thank all of the excellent applicants who showed interest in this award in 2025.
