The Truchas Chapter of Trout Unlimited, based in Santa Fe, has awarded its 2026 Truchas Scholarship to Robin Hickerson of Mandela International Magnet School of Santa Fe. This $2500 scholarship was established in 2024 to support future science and conservation leaders from public schools in the Santa Fe, Los Alamos and Espanola areas in their pursuit of a secondary STEM education. The scholarship committee chose Robin as the recipient based on a strong academic record, a history of service to the community, and a glowing teacher recommendation.
Robin was the caretaker for the Trout in the Classroom fish tank raising Rio Grande Cutthroat Trout at her school, and was presented with the scholarship award on the field trip with her peers to release those trout fingerlings into the Rio Grande River on April 23.
Robin has spent many hours exploring the New Mexico outdoors and has worked on crews building trails and fire lines. She plans to study Biology and Nursing starting in the fall of 2026 and is still considering several different colleges in the Southwest. The Truchas Chapter congratulates her and wishes her success and a bright future.
