SUMMARY:Open Casting Session with Truchas Chapter
DESCRIPTION:Join the Truchas Chapter of Trout Unlimited for an open casting session\, a fun and welcoming way to sharpen your fly casting. This is an informal\, skills-based gathering with casting drills\, distance and accuracy games\, casting challenges\, and plenty of time to ask questions or work on specific techniques. Whether you are brand new or an experienced caster\, the activities are designed to be useful at every level. \nCertified instructors Eric Callow and Tanner Hall will lead the session\, offer critique and suggestions\, and introduce casters to the American Casting Association accuracy games. Good casting takes practice\, and it goes a lot further with passionate instructors and a like-minded community. This session provides both. \nThis is a regularly planned casting series\, so come out\, meet fellow anglers\, and make it a habit. \nWhat to bring: Your own rod and reel if you have them. A few loaner setups will be available if you need to borrow gear. SUMMARY:Fall Casting Clinic with the Truchas Chapter
DESCRIPTION:Almost every fly angler’s story begins the same way: a desire to simply make a better cast. We catch fish with whatever technique we happen to have\, but there is a particular gratification in laying out a nuanced presentation in a challenging spot\, and chasing that feeling is how a lot of us fell for this sport in the first place. This fall\, we would like to help you take a step down that road. \nOn Saturday\, October 24\, the Truchas Chapter of Trout Unlimited is hosting a Fall Casting Clinic at Magers Field\, and we are opening it up to everyone in Santa Fe\, not just chapter members. If you have never picked up a fly rod\, this clinic was built for you. If you have been at it a while and want to tighten your loop\, there is plenty here for you too. \nThe morning is taught by Fly Fishers International (FFI) Certified Casting Instructors. FFI’s Certified Casting Instructor program has spent more than thirty years training instructors in a shared understanding of how a cast works\, the mechanics and even the physics behind it\, and how to teach it well. There are around 1\,500 CCIs teaching in some forty countries today\, and as a group they are famously eager to share what they know. Our past clinics have been made possible by volunteer Certified Instructors traveling in from as far as Albuquerque and Taos. \nYou will spend the morning working through the fundamentals in small groups\, moving between stations: the basic casting stroke\, the roll cast\, mends and curve casts\, presentation\, and the concepts that tie it all together. Go at your own pace\, ask all the questions you want\, and leave with real casts you can take to the river.
