SUMMARY:Social Hour & Board Meeting: guest speaker Bryan Ferguson\, NMDOW - All members welcome
DESCRIPTION:Our September board meeting has a guest. \nBryan Ferguson\, Rio Grande Cutthroat Trout Biologist with the New Mexico Department of Wildlife (NMDOW)\, speaks on Rio Grande Cutthroat Trout Conservation and Management in New Mexico. Second-floor events room at Hervé Wine Bar\, Wednesday\, September 9. Social hour from 5:00\, Bryan from 5:30 to 6:00\, board meeting at 6:00. \nBryan Ferguson has worked in fisheries with the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish since 2015 and has served as the Department’s Rio Grande Cutthroat Trout biologist since 2022\, focusing on RGCT conservation\, management\, and restoration throughout New Mexico. \nHe is covering four things: where Rio Grande Cutthroat Trout stand in New Mexico\, the cutthroat populations of the Pecos watershed\, the Pecos restoration projects underway now\, and the Pecos strain broodstock. \nThat Pecos half is why the board fixed this date. The upper Pecos is the second most popular trout fishery in New Mexico\, better than a million angler days a year\, and twelve conservation populations of Rio Grande Cutthroat are left in the whole basin. Our 2026-2031 Strategic Plan commits us to making the case that the Upper Pecos should be a Trout Unlimited priority water by 2027. We are building that case now\, and this is the science behind it. \nMembers and their guests both\, so bring the fishing partner who cares about this watershed. \nThe details: \n\nWednesday\, September 9\, 2026\nHervé Wine Bar\, second-floor events room\, 139 W. San Francisco St.\, Santa Fe\nSocial hour 5:00\, Bryan speaks 5:30 to 6:00\, board meeting 6:00\nMembers and their guests\nDinner afterward for anyone who can stay\n\nPlease let us know you are coming so we can set out enough chairs. RSVP below. \nSee you upstairs on the ninth. \nThe Truchas Chapter of Trout Unlimited

SUMMARY:Exclosure Repair & Restoration Tour\, Chihuahueños Creek (Jemez Mountains)
DESCRIPTION:We return to Chihuahueños Creek in the fall for another round of exclosure maintenance — and this trip adds something special: a full restoration tour of TU’s work in the area. \nOn Day 1\, volunteers will caravan to the north side of the Jemez\, hike to the exclosures\, make repairs\, and camp for the night. Day 2 features a shuttle-assisted hike of approximately four miles back through the full length of the restoration project — a rare chance to see the scope of what TU and its partners have built\, from the headwaters down. For anyone who wants to understand what hands-on conservation actually looks like across a watershed\, this trip delivers. \nWhat to bring: Your own camping gear. All meals provided by TU.\nQuestions? Email project manager Juliet Smith at Juliet.Smith@tu.org \nSpace is limited and TU requires volunteers to pre-register. \nFull event details and registration →

SUMMARY:Open Casting Session with Truchas Chapter
DESCRIPTION:Join the Truchas Chapter of Trout Unlimited for an open casting session\, a fun and welcoming way to sharpen your fly casting. This is an informal\, skills-based gathering with casting drills\, distance and accuracy games\, casting challenges\, and plenty of time to ask questions or work on specific techniques. Whether you are brand new or an experienced caster\, the activities are designed to be useful at every level. \nCertified instructors Eric Callow and Tanner Hall will lead the session\, offer critique and suggestions\, and introduce casters to the American Casting Association accuracy games. Good casting takes practice\, and it goes a lot further with passionate instructors and a like-minded community. This session provides both. \nThis is a regularly planned casting series\, so come out\, meet fellow anglers\, and make it a habit. \nWhat to bring: Your own rod and reel if you have them. A few loaner setups will be available if you need to borrow gear. All skill levels welcome. \nQuestions: Tanner Hall\, Fly Fishing Committee Chair\, (404) 971-0777\, tannerhall47@gmail.com; or Eric Callow\, Director of Casting Activities\, (818) 219-2276\, cecallow@att.net.
